History: The orphanages were established in 1994 to give children a refuge (mostly from the casualties of war). These two orphanages were founded by Alexander Clark Sr. who died in July of 2003 and donated the land at Mt Barclay. His son Alexander Clark Jr. lives at the orphanage, builds and maintains our buildings, is a carpenter and a farmer and helps out everyway he can. A UN brokered peace was negotiated in July of this year, and free democratic elections are scheduled at the end of 2005. The country of Liberia is predominantly Christian and English speaking. Our goal is to teach leadership and self sufficiency to provide an example for the rest of Africa. Our hope is that some of the children we help will carry on this work.
Local ties: Our Director of Missions Lucy Roberts immigrated here to the DFW area from Liberia, raised and educated nine children here, has her own business in Bedford Texas and has been helping and traveling to these orphanages for ten years. She goes over two to three times a year and makes sure all our donations get to the orphanage. 100% of the donations we collect go to the mission. Volunteers here, in Tyler, Texas and in Atlanta Georgia with backgrounds in health, education, management and administration are also dedicated to Childrens Rescue Outreach International. Our mission is based on James 1:27 which states, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” NIV Present Projects: Develop the five acre campus located at Mount Kenya for 250 orphans. Feed the street children in the Nairobi slums until we can get them to a safe place. Finish the school buildings and dormitories at both orphanages. Build private schools at Mt. Barclay and at Dowen. Comfort and help the widows at Orange Grove become self sufficient. Prepare for an influx of war refugees from surrounding countries now that peace has come to Liberia. Plan for a Children’s hospital and Clinic. |
